Bitumen 35/50 Formulation

Bitumen 35/50 is not produced by mixing fixed percentages of ingredients. It is a refinery produced paving binder manufactured by carefully controlling the refining process to achieve a penetration value of 35–50 dmm and other required physical properties.

Production Process

1.Crude Oil Distillation:

  • Crude oil is processed in an atmospheric distillation unit.
  • Lighter fractions (gasoline, kerosene, diesel, etc.) are removed.

2. Vacuum Distillation:

  • The heavy residue is further distilled under vacuum.
  • The remaining vacuum residue forms the base material for paving bitumen.

3. Quality Adjustment
The binder may be adjusted by:

  • Air blowing (when required)
  • Blending different vacuum residues
  • Flux adjustment (in some refinery processes)
  • These adjustments ensure the product meets the required penetration, softening point, viscosity, and ductility specifications.
