BITUMEN 80/100 FEATURES

Bitumen 80/100 technical details

The quality of this type of bitumen shows its characteristics and specifications. In addition to penetration testing, there are tests used to determine bitumen grade, including viscosity, softening point, shape, heat loss, and flash point.

Some of these are for bitumen 80/100 suppliers and customers. They should be more important. These are the softening point and the Flash point.

According to ASTM D36 method, the softening point of this grade of bitumen is between 45 and 52 ° C and the flash point of this grade of bitumen is 225 ° C.

Bitumen 80/100 provides excellent flexibility, adhesion, and durability for a wide range of climatic conditions.

Important Features

Penetration Grade: 80–100 dmm
Excellent Workability: Easy to mix, lay, and compact during asphalt production.
Strong Adhesion: Provides excellent bonding with mineral aggregates.
Good Flexibility: Helps resist cracking caused by temperature changes and traffic loads.
Excellent Durability: Delivers long-lasting pavement performance with reduced maintenance.
Good Water Resistance: Protects pavements against moisture damage and stripping.
High Resistance to Aging: Maintains performance under long-term environmental exposure.
Reliable Fatigue Resistance: Performs well under repeated traffic loading.

BITUMEN 80/100 FORMULATION

Bitumen 80/100 is manufactured from petroleum vacuum bottom in Aras Petrochemical refinery, with processing carefully controlled to achieve a penetration value of 80–100 dmm.

Production Process

1. Atmospheric Distillation
Crude oil is distilled to remove light products such as gasoline, kerosene, and diesel.

2. Vacuum Distillation
The remaining heavy residue is processed under vacuum to produce bitumen feedstock.

3. Quality Adjustment
The bitumen is refined by blending vacuum residues and, where required, controlled processing to achieve the desired penetration, softening point, viscosity, and ductility.

Composition

  • Component Typical Range
  • Asphaltenes 10–20%
  • Resins 20–35%
  • Aromatics 40–55%
  • Saturates 5–15%

The exact composition varies depending on the crude oil source and refinery process. There is no universal formulation for Bitumen 80/100.

Quality Test Items

  • Penetration: 80–100 dmm
  • Softening Point: Typically 42–52°C
  • Excellent workability
  • Strong adhesion to aggregates
  • Good flexibility and fatigue resistance
  • High durability and resistance to aging

Bitumen 80/100 is produced to meet international paving bitumen specifications and is formulated to provide excellent workability, flexibility, and long lasting performance for asphalt paving and road construction applications.

This type of Bitumen is known by some formula according to application in industries such as:

Elementally, it contains 88% carbon and around 9% hydrogen, and other chemical contents are up to 4% sulfur, 1% nitrogen, 1% oxygen, and 2000ppm metals.

Bitumen Products are composed mainly of highly condensed polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
