Sodium carbonate is an industrial chemical with a wide range of purposes and functions, which is one of the most important and widely used industrial raw materials due to its production from cheap and accessible raw materials in nature, which is used in various industries such as glass, detergent and soap industries, water treatment, in the petrochemical industry and drilling oil wells.

Sodium carbonate with the chemical formula (Na2CO3) is a solid white substance that is produced in both powder and granular forms, which are also known by other names such as Soda Ash and Washing Soda in various industries.

Sodium Carbonate is produced through a variety of processes and methods from natural sources, mainly through the Solvay process by using limestone (calcium carbonate), ammonia, and salt (sodium chloride). In this method, the final product is Sodium Carbonate and calcium chloride would be a by-product of this process.

Removing the hardness of Water 

By adding sodium carbonate to hard water, calcium and magnesium ions are removed and as a result, the amount of detergent used in soft water without hardness would be reduced.

Urban Water Reservoir

Sodium carbonate increases the pH of the water and decreases the acidic effect of chlorine on water. Due to these properties, sodium carbonate is commonly used in Urban Water reservoirs.

In The Textile Dyeing Industry

Sodium carbonate is used in the textile and dyeing industries to enhance the bonding of dye pigments and textile materials such as fibers, yarns.

In the Food Industry:

Sodium Carbonate Food Grade would be used in the production of various pickles – salting meat, pasta and noodles, carbonated soft drinks (beverages).

Sodium carbonate is used in the food industry as a pH control agent (Acidity regulators) and food preservative.

In the Electrolysis Industry:

Sodium Carbonate as an electrolyte agent increases the water decomposition into hydrogen and oxygen molecules.

In the production of toothpaste

Sodium Carbonate is one of the main materials in the production of toothpaste, which removes stains and plaque on the teeth and causes toothpaste foam. In The Brick Making Process
