Bitumen SPOT TEST is a fast and efficient method in the quality control laboratory. The positive result of the SPOT TEST indicates that the Bitumen was produced with excess heat or in other words the produced bitumen burnt. And its negative result indicates the production and storage of the relevant Bitumen sample were in the normal and standard temperatures.

The method of this test is as follows we will place 2 grams of the Bitumen sample on the flask and by placing it on gentle heat, let the sample spread as a thin layer. Then by adding 10.2 ml of the desired solvent by using a pipette and covering the lid of the flask, shake the sample rapidly for 5 seconds, and then we put it on a boiling bain-marie and shake the desired solution for 5 seconds after every minute. This process continues until a uniform solution is obtained.

After obtaining a uniform solution, cool the desired sample to a temperature of 32 degrees Celsius. And then, using a dropper, we drip a drop of it on Whatman No. 50 filter paper. After 5 minutes, if the drop is observed as a brown spot with a dark mass core or a core with a halo in the center, the test result is positive. And in the case of uniform circular brown spots, it is reported as negative.
