OXIDIZED BITUMEN 90/15 FEATURES
Oxidized Bitumen 90/15 Technical Details
This grade of Bitumen has too low penetration Although its softening point is lower than grade 115/15 In addition to penetration testing, there are tests used to determine Oxidized bitumen 90/15, including viscosity, shape, heat loss, and flash point. and the most important items are penetration and softening point.
According to the ASTM D36 method, the softening point of this grade of bitumen is between 85 and 95 ° C and the flash point is 225 ° C.
One of the most important features of Oxidized Bitumen 90/15 is its excellent resistance to heat. It maintains its physical properties under elevated temperatures, preventing excessive flow or deformation during service. This makes it particularly suitable for waterproofing systems, roofing membranes, pipe coatings, and industrial sealants exposed to varying climatic conditions.
The material also provides outstanding waterproofing characteristics by forming a continuous and impermeable barrier against moisture. Its strong adhesion to concrete, metal, wood, and masonry ensures excellent bonding and long-term protection in construction and industrial applications.
Oxidized Bitumen 90/15 offers superior resistance to weathering, ultraviolet (UV) radiation, oxidation, and many dilute chemicals, enabling it to perform effectively in harsh outdoor environments. Its durable structure provides excellent resistance to cracking, aging, and mechanical stress, resulting in an extended service life with minimal maintenance.

Oxidized Bitumen 90/15 Formulation
Oxidized Bitumen 90/15 is semi solid Bitumen known by some formula according to application in industries such as:
Elementally, it contains from 90% carbon and around 8% hydrogen, and other chemical contents are up to 1% sulfur, 1% nitrogen, 1% oxygen, and 2000ppm metals.
Bitumen Products are composed mainly of highly condensed polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
Bitumen 90/15 is manufactured by controlled air oxidation of selected petroleum bitumen. During the production process, hot air is continuously injected into heated bitumen, causing chemical reactions that increase the softening point while reducing penetration. The result is a high performance industrial bitumen with excellent thermal stability, waterproofing properties, and long term durability.
Raw Materials
- Material Function
- Selected Petroleum Bitumen Primary raw material
- Air (Oxygen) Oxidizing agent
- Process Oil (if required) Property adjustment during production
Manufacturing Process
1. High quality penetration grade bitumen is heated to the required processing temperature.
2. Hot air is injected into the oxidation reactor under controlled temperature and pressure.
3. The oxidation process changes the molecular structure by increasing asphaltenes and reducing lighter oil fractions.
4. Production continues until the required physical properties are achieved.
5. The finished product is cooled, quality tested, and packed in meltable bags, cartons, steel drums, or supplied in bulk.
Bitumen 90/15 Characteristics
- Softening Point: Approximately 90°C
- Penetration: Approximately 15 dmm
- Excellent thermal stability
- High waterproofing performance
- Strong adhesion
- Excellent resistance to weathering and oxidation
- High dimensional stability
Unlike conventional paving bitumen, Oxidized Bitumen 90/15 is classified by its physical properties rather than a fixed chemical formulation. The final characteristics are achieved by carefully controlling oxidation temperature, airflow, pressure, reaction time, and the quality of the base bitumen.
This manufacturing process produces a durable oxidized bitumen suitable for roofing membranes, waterproofing systems, expansion joint fillers, industrial mastics, pipe coatings, corrosion protection, adhesives, electrical insulation, and other industrial construction applications requiring reliable long term performance.
