Oxidized Bitumen 115/15 is widely used in the construction, roofing, waterproofing, pipeline, electrical, and heavy industrial sectors, where exceptional thermal stability, corrosion protection, moisture resistance, and long lasting performance are critical. Its superior physical properties make it one of the preferred grades for demanding industrial applications worldwide.
This type of bitumen is used for road construction, Building construction, coating industries, waterproofing, roofing felts, insulation, and many other projects in regions that have hot weather and It can also be used to produce some of the basic layers of asphalt too.
Oxidized Bitumen 115/15 Formulation
Oxidized Bitumen 115/15 is produced by the controlled air blowing of selected petroleum bitumen or vacuum Bottom. During this process, heated air reacts with the bitumen, increasing its softening point and reducing its penetration until the required grade is achieved.
Oxidized Bitumen 115/15 Raw Materials
Material Typical Function
Vacuum Bottom residue or penetration grade bitumen Main feedstock
Process oil or flux oil Used only when adjustment is required
Air Oxidizing agent during production
Production Process
The base bitumen is heated in an oxidation reactor, generally under carefully controlled temperature and airflow conditions. Air is then injected through the hot material, causing chemical changes in the hydrocarbon structure. These reactions increase the asphaltene content, improve hardness, and raise thermal stability.
The oxidation continues until the product reaches approximately:
- Softening Point: 110–120°C
- Penetration: 10–20 dmm
After production, the material is cooled, tested, and packed in cartons, meltable bags, steel drums, or supplied in bulk.
Oxidized Bitumen 115/15 does not have one fixed universal chemical recipe. Its final formulation depends on the crude oil source, refinery feedstock, reactor conditions, airflow, temperature, and production time. The grade is therefore defined mainly by its physical properties rather than exact ingredient percentages.
This formulation provides excellent heat resistance, waterproofing, dimensional stability, adhesion, and durability, making Oxidized Bitumen 115/15 suitable for roofing membranes, pipe coatings, industrial mastics, electrical insulation, joint fillers, adhesives, and heavy duty waterproofing systems.
Oxidized Bitumen 115/15 is semi-solid Bitumen known by some formula according to application in industries such as:
Elementally, it contains from 95% carbon and around 4% hydrogen, and other chemical contents are up to 1% sulfur, 1% nitrogen, 1% oxygen and 2000ppm metals.
Bitumen Products are composed mainly of highly condensed polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
Oxidized Bitumen 115/15 Packing
Packing of this type of bitumen would be 25 kg Kraft Bags, Meltable bags and Carton boxes with pallets or without pallets.
